The Authors

Carol Schmidt, RN, BSNCarol Schmidt, RN, BSN

Carol received her bachelor degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin. She is the mother of two children, ages 7 and 9, the older of which is affected by autism. She gained knowledge and experience in Applied Behavioral Analysis through her son’s early and intensive intervention. She has been involved in all aspects of his education including discrete trial training, curriculum development, educational planning, evaluation, and intervention.

Carol has assisted numerous families in the application of behavioral theory and practice in both the home and school settings. She has collaborated with educators, both those in general and special education, to develop and implement successful strategies for children with autism in the classroom. Her emphasis on consistent and systematic behavioral intervention across life settings, with continuity between school and home, has been highly successful. She resides in Denver, Colorado with her husband Rob and their two children.

Beth Heybyrne, MA

Beth received her bachelor degree in elementary education from Plattsburgh State University, and her master’s degree in special education from the University of Colorado. She gained expertise in the principles and practice of Applied Behavioral Analysis through her experiences as a behavioral therapist and classroom paraprofessional.

Beth's experiences include discrete trial training, curriculum development, and educational planning in both the home and school setting for a variety of children with autism. She teaches special education at the elementary school level. She resides in Evergreen, Colorado.
